Information Models

  • Patient Information System comprises of a system that maintains and updates patients records in a medical institution in a region.
  • Good PIS systems provide
    • Simple User Interface for Adding and Updating Information 
    • Search engine for searches on the basis of blood group, name, age etc.)
    • Save (Saving the record onto disk drive.)
    • Report Generation
  • A Patient Information System should support the following:
    • User Interface for adding, updating, searching patient records.
    • Saving to permanent storage.
    • Report Generation on various criteria.
  • The following information models represent different aspects of a general PIS system. These models, represented in UML (Unified Modeling Language),  can be customized and extended if needed.
    • Use Cases: capture the activities performed by the system and the key players. These correspond to the Functional Requirements
    • System Sequence Diagram (SSD): Refinement of Use cases. Shows the sequence of activities/messages between the players
    • Class Diagram: Shows the key objects in the system and their properties (attributes and methods)
